The Rye YMCA
100 Years Strong

100 years ago, a group of local residents gathered in a room above Guerin’s Drugstore in Rye to organize the Rye YMCA. Two years later, in 1916, the PGA of America was founded and the first miniature golf course opened in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

O-K, so maybe there’s no connection. But it was an auspicious decade for golf lovers, the Y movement and the Rye community.

Over the past century, the Rye Y has grown in ways our founders probably never imagined. With nearly 11,000 members of every age, ability, economic status, race and ethnicity, the Rye Y is a vibrant facility where men, women and children support each other in their goals. We are also actively committed to community health. Our initiatives promote pedestrian safety, nutrition and physical activity in schools, outdoor play and exploration for children, support and healing for cancer survivors and chronic disease prevention.

We do all this and more while keeping a powerful promise to the communities we serve: no-one will be turned away from a Y program or activity because he or she can’t pay. In 2013, the Rye Y awarded more than $625,000 in financial assistance to our neighbors who needed a helping hand.

Special events like the Christopher D. Mello Golf Outing fund the Y Cares program, which allows children, teens, adults, and seniors to experience all that the Y offers.

So join us out on the course. The Y, stronger communities, golf. Maybe it’s all connected after all.
